DUI Results in Death of Four, Driver Pleads Not Guilty
They call it the California Christmas Concert Crash. A suspected DUI Driver killed four pedestrians while crossing the street outside of their church. At least 12 others suffered injuries including broken bones, abrasions and head trauma. Five of the injured are children.
The disabled driver was driving a modified vehicle and was reported to have been on medication when the tragedy occurred.
Margo Bronstein pleaded not guilty in court of four counts of vehicular manslaughter, and one count of driving under the influence of a drug. Her attorney cited her previous spotless record of driving and said that she wasn’t reckless, calling the melee a horrific accident.
Of the three adults killed, 2 were in their 80’s; one was a 6 year old boy and the fourth victim was the boy’s mother. Investigators are probing the cause of the accident, but contend that the driver was allegedly high on drugs. The defense is saying that the hand-controlled brakes malfunctioned.
The driver was wheeled into court on a gurney, due to her disabilities. She is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled back in court later in January.
